TV PSAs Offer Help to New Orleans Small Business Owners
I posted a few weeks back about shooting a series of Public Service Announcements that Robert Berning Productions produced for the Beuerman Miller Fitzgerald agency and their client GoodWork Network. The mission of the organization is to expand the local economy by building minority and women owned businesses.
Under the creative direction of Robert Berning Jr., I shot stills of the chosen business owners in their work environment. The images were then further digitally processed and combined in post-production with motion graphics and voice-overs of the business owners. Below is one of spots that’s getting ready to hit the air…

What would Edison Say About Today’s HDSLR Video Rigs?
I wonder what Thomas Alva Edison would have to say about today’s tricked out HDSLR video rigs? Somehow I doubt he would exclaim, “You’ve come a long way, baby!”. If Edison were alive and inventing today, he’d probably already have a dozen patents on the latest breed of HD hybrid shooters.
The folks at Zacuto had some fun recently pimping out their DSLR Z-Cage, a portable mounting solution for your DSLR and all of the accessories your heart desires. To be honest, if I saw one of these rigs coming toward me down the sidewalk, I’d cross the street!
Continue reading after the break to see the Zacuto DSLR-Z-Cage in action. As for Edison, he once said, “Anything that won’t sell, I don’t want to invent. Its sale is proof of utility, and utility is success.”

I’ve been wondering for a while about what to call the new generation of HD capable still cameras like the Canon 5D Mark ll, Nikon D9o, Panasonic GH1, etc. Are they HD DSLRs, DSLR Video cameras, HD SLR cameras, etc? Turns out I’m not the only one.
Jared Abrams over at Cinema5D has settled on HDSLR, which is also my personal favorite. Other naming variations include the word hybrid, such as Redrock Micro’s DSLR Hybrid Cinema Rigs. Out of curiosity, I ran some relevant terms through Google’s keyword tool to see exactly what words people are actually using when they search for … uh, you know … those new cameras. You can see the results after the break …

Helping Local Entrepreneurs Spur Economic Development
Robert Berning Productions recently accepted a pro bono challenge to produce three :30 spots for the nonprofit Goodwork Network. The mission of the organization is to expand the local economy by building minority and women owned businesses.
I had the pleasure of spending a few hours each with three individuals who have found their calling and are on the way to success with the help of Goodwork Network. You can watch one of the finished spots after the break … Continue reading »
