Roundup: Best Photos of 2009

Posted on Dec 21, 2009

UPDATE: Rob Galbrath DPI has posted several more links to 2009 photo galleries from various agencies and new organizations. Its that time of year … the onslaught of “best of” lists is upon us, including everything from movies, books, gadgets, iPhone apps, web sites, software, etc. Not to be outdone, I’ve compiled a selection of best photography of 2009 lists.

There was a time when any current stack of Life Magazine issues probably was the best photography of the year. Nowadays the Life brand, in partnership with Getty Images, publishes Life.com, offering a vast online catalog of some of the world’s best photography. This year, Life editors have compiled two galleries totaling 100 photos to represent the best of the year. Check them out at LIFE’s 2009 Pictures of the Year, Part 1 and Part 2.

Reuters,  the world’s largest international multimedia news agency, also offers multiple online galleries, including Pictures of the Decade and Pictures of the Year 2009.

naturesbestNature’s Best Magazine has announced the winners of  the 2009 Windland Smith Rice International Awards. From more than 20,000 entries, 48 images were chosen as award winners and will be in a temporary exhibition at the National Museum of Natural History from Nov. 12 through May 2, 2010.  Category winners are posted online and the complete collection of Winners and Highly Honored images are showcased in the Fall/Winter 2009 Collectors Edition of Nature’s Best Photography.

Do you have another favorite pictures of the year list? Please share in the comments and let us know why they should be included in this post.
