Handy Calculators for Video Storage, Aspect Ratios, Lens Angle and More …

Posted on Nov 23, 2009

This is the first post in FilmShooter’s Tools and Resources category, with the intention of compiling a collection of useful online tools and resources for anyone working in the film / video production or post-production arena. Inaugural honors go to Digital Rebellion for their great group of calculators for video, film and even power loads.

Digital Rebellion is a post-production services company based in Burbank, CA that also offers software utilities for Final Cut Pro users. Their Resources page includes calculators for aspect ratios and pixel dimensions of video footage, depth of field, lens angles, power loads, etc.

My favorite is the video footage calculator, intended to give an indication of the amount of space a given video format will take up on disk (useful when transcoding all that great 5D Mark ll footage!).

The calculators are also available in mobile phone versions. So, check ’em out and let me know what you think … and what online resources do you rely on?
